Two things to do before and after April 5th
🤓This directly impacts you
Reduce your energy bill in 5 mins - With the energy costs set to rise on April 1st, I found that my annual costs was 9% lower if I paid via direct debit vs. using pay as you go. Contact your energy provider to set this up if it is an option.
You have 6 months to use any £20 or £50 notes you have lying around. From September, you won’t be able to use these in shops as these notes will be replaced with more durable, less forgeable plastic notes. You can spend, deposit or exchange them in your bank. Read more.
BoE- Bank of England have increased interest rates- this is some good news for savers and bad news for borrowers (who are not a fixed rates). You’ve probably received letters from your bank informing you of an increase in savings rates- remember to shop around to find the best deal.
📈Add a piece of Picasso to your investments
I’ve just found out about Masterworks, an art marketplace that invites investors to own art and get rewarded if and when the art sells. This is somewhat similar to owning a share in a company like Apple except you cannot sell the shares in a public stock market and you are not earning dividends. Instead of owning shares of a company, you will own art shares. Masterwork’s mission is to open the art world to everyday investors like you and I so we can diversify our portfolio.
How it works:
Masterworks buys art (using an algorithm to find promising artists.
They convert the art into shares which you can buy.
They hold it for up to 10 years, sell it and share proceeds if any, with shareholders. If you don’t want to wait, you can sell your share(s) on their secondary market.

On a related note, I recommend this easy to read book to anyone wanting to learn about the basics and history of art.
